Abstract

The trend of interdisciplinary conceptual design requires designers to involve more and more distributed multidisciplinary resources. However most of the designers are only familiar with the resources in their own domain, which has a negative effect on exploring the scope of design space. This study proposes a graph-based algorithm to assist designers with a computerized process to explore novel design solutions under the distributed multidisciplinary resource environment. A structured approach is proposed to represent existing resources in the distributed multi-disciplinary resource environment. Finally, a garbage power system is used as an illustrative case to validate the feasibility of the proposed algorithm.
