Identification and classification of facilities managers functions: A proposal validated by Latin American experts


This work has evaluated the reflection of the organizational functions of the support activities linked to the different main areas in the Facility Management profession through the review of the literature. An analysis of the different documents was carried out giving rise to a proposal of areas and functions analogous to the existing ones, and subsequently its validity was requested through an expert consultation on Facility Management in Latin America by means of electronic questionnaires, which reached a 97% approval. The authors of this paper show, according to the validation of the proposal, that Facility Management is composed of, at least, 37 functions that cover support activities and that can be catalogued, depending on each organization, under six main areas: Asset & Maintenance Management, Real Estate & Property Management, Energy & Sustainability Management, Project Management, Workplace Management and Facilities Services Management.
